originating from the earlier work of the Chelsea factory - there is evidence to suggest that a collection of some 300 moulds was transferred from the Chelsea factory to the Derby factory in the second part of the 18th Century

it's been worn alongside another ring so there's a groove along one edge where the rings have rubbed
most likely to be given to a member of the Royal Irish Regiments fighting in the Second Boer War in South Africa
