It has 5" wide jaws which open to 4 1 4", and has been used in my instrument shop since the late '80s. I purchased it from MSC back in the day when there was no web and I ordered from a catalog. This is a dead square, toolmakers vise. It's never been used an an anvil and has spent its life in a toolroom supporting an optical shop. The jaws are soft steel, as its role was to gently grip
