The lid has an engine turned design of horizontal lines with two banded borders engraved to look like lace. The oblong cartouche is engraved with the initials M V W. The catch is quite unusual a triangular clip folds on to the silver knob. All clasps & hinges work perfectly. The interior of the compact is not at all common to see the powder well wall forms
