The Air Assault Badge may be retroactively awarded to veterans of the Vietnam War upon application to the United States Army Human Resources Command
representative of the organization's mission
The award was intended to recognize those members of the Army who had been trained in glider assault tactics and was presented upon completion of a combat glider flight into enemy held territory
The badge is not considered a permanent decoration and must be surrendered upon termination of duty as a firefighter
Current requirements include successful negotiations of a 100-question written test with a 75% score

Criteria: General officers: Wear the basic badge, representative of the organization's mission, upon entering a headquarters staff or command position, unless previously qualified for a higher level badge.
