Walter Gropius designed the set at the end of the 1960s in collaboration with the ceramic artist Katherine de Sousa. The dynamic shape is derived from sections of a sphere and related radii and curves, surfaces, and lines. The curve of the handle continues in the lid knob, providing an intuitively graspable point to hold the lid when pouring tea.
